Comparison of Checklists

Some collectors are more familiar with the lists of JC. Wilson designs prepared by Ed Richardson (1943), J.R. Burdick (1958), or by Kenneth Rowe (1981). Here is a comparison of how these lists equate to those of Gates (1957) and Smith (2003), as well as the latest Smith (2014).

Colour coding of the entries is provided for the Gates and Rowe lists showing each collector’s sense of scarcity of the various designs. Red indicates rare, (although the WLS-001 and WLS-006 designs missing from Rowe’s list would make them his rarest), blue indicates scarce, and black is most common. [In the latest site update, the tables function has dropped the colours—I’ll see if I can get them reinstated].

Gates illustrates a J.C. Wilson business card with the text “Jubilee Card” which was not intended for mailing, however, he does not list the WLS-001 card. He shows a preprinted postcard of a similar design to WLS-001, but pre-addressed to the Royal Oil Co. (Montreal & Toronto), thus making WLS-001 in the form illustrated on this site unknown to Gates.
